Faculty of Arts, Design and Media
Birmingham City University has a simple mission – we enable our students to transform their lives and realize their potential.
Through our education and research, and the roles our graduates play in the world, we not only help individuals transform their lives, but we also play a role in transforming society.
We are extremely proud of our city, the role we have played in its past and the way we are participating in its ongoing renaissance. Just as for nearly 180 years we have helped meet the demands of the economy and society around us, so today too we are an important part of the changing face of Birmingham, the region and the world.
The £340m we recently invested in our city center campuses shows how we are building on that civic heritage, not this one. We are committed to giving the next generation the skills they need to thrive in a digital and ever-changing global environment.
Our passionate BCU community – including our talented and diverse staff and students – together with the demand we see from those wishing to study with us and our strong financial position, are why ours is a particularly exciting university, where ambitious people can expect to thrive.
To help us accelerate in the years to come, we are appointing eight leadership positions across the University’s four faculties, including the new position of Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media.
With over 5,500 students enrolled in courses in music, drama, writing, media, digital technology, art, design, jewelry and architecture, the faculty is one of the main providers of talented professionals for the cultural and creative industries. We are housed on a new campus with state-of-the-art facilities and brilliant people; we pride ourselves on being one of the most inclusive arts education institutions in the world.
In this role, you will make a crucial contribution to the strategic and operational leadership of the faculty. Serving as part of the leadership team, you will work alongside the Dean to build a culture of excellence and inclusiveness. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to lead in a collaborative and supportive manner, building teams and involving your colleagues in your vision, while not hesitating to make difficult decisions. You will need political skills to advocate for the interests of the faculty while ensuring they are aligned with the wider strategic agenda of the university. Above all, your student-centered approach means that every decision you make puts students at the heart of everything, giving them the best chance for future success.
Above all, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about BCU’s mission and our brand new I AM BCU values and experienced in supporting leadership in a changing industry.
